PURPOSE OF THE JOB

Responsible for ensuring that operations run in line with Health, Safety, Security and Environmental (HSSE) policies and procedures.

The HSSE Coordinator is a contact person for HSSE notifications that cover new rules, policies, lessons learnt and updates and to communicate to Kalonga employees and at the same time respond to Barrick HSE complaints and reported problems timeously.

MAIN DUTIES

a) Take safety as a personal responsibility and prevent accident/incidents to achieve Zero harm to people, environment, and equipment.
b) Understand all the Kalonga HSSE policies, procedures and guidelines and comply with all the requirements including Barrick HSE policies, procedures, and guidelines for operational excellency.
c) Inspect work areas to look for hazards and capture all the hazards in Sphera to ensure they are closed out.
d) Report all the incidents/accidents and investigate in accordance with Kalonga accident/incident reporting requirements.
e) Hazard evaluation and risk management.
f) Conduct task observations monthly for all staff.
g) Site custody transfer equipment to be always within calibration (calibrated twice a year with valid certificates).
h) Organize and facilitate all HSSE site meetings including meetings with LMC HSE personnel/managers and ensure timely circulation of meeting minutes.
i) Enforce waste oil management procedures and scheduling of the interceptor servicing and cleaning in accordance with the Kalonga, Barrick, and legal requirements.
j) Review compliance to competencies for transporter Bulk Vehicle Operators (BVO’s) including tracking and maintenance of training and competency records for BVO’s, and act as trainer for employee HSE related and special skills.
k) Provide assurance that all the respective work areas are in sound housekeeping and ensure orderly maintenance of work areas using “the clean as you work policy” to prevent incidents/accidents.
l) Ensure all statutory required documents are up to date – the fire certificate and the hazardous waste management licence.
m) Update and communicate all necessary health and safety information; such as Kalonga site specific HSE policy, integrated quality and environmental policy and Kalonga safety policy
n) Co-ordinate with LMC ERT for emergency equipment inspections every quarter/Month and week.
o) Provide necessary training for everyone so they can meet their health and safety responsibilities.
p) Report and record all accidents and incidents in Sphera and ensure investigations are completed and lessons learnt are dispersed to the right audience.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING

Education Background

  • Diploma/Certificate in Occupational safety and health environment and any related field

  • 2 years’ experience in hydrocarbon operations
  • HSSE and operations understanding.
